About William Robinson Jr

Smokey Robinson Net Worth

With a net worth of $100 million, Smokey Robinson founded the Miracles,a Motown vocal group. In addition to performing with the group he was the producer and chief songwriter. He worked with the Miracles from 1955 to 1972. Robinson left the group to work as the the vice president of Motown.

A Solo Career

In 1973 Smokey Robinson went back to making music and churned out singles that went on to become top 10 hits. He released an album titled Smokey. On the album was a song in tribute to the Miracles; Sweet Harmony. His second album was released a year later but did not sell as well. The album did not include any major hits. This is partly attributed to competition from others such as Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. In 1975 he released his next album, The Quiet Storm. Three of the singles on the album went on to become hits. By then his solo career was on the rocks due to taking time off to work for Motown Records.

Robinson had his next hit in 1981 with the Being With You ballad. The song made it to number two on Billboard’s top 100 singles. It also became a number one single in the U.K. making it the most successful single he has recorded. After releasing several more albums under the Motown label, Robinson and Rick James released an R&B ballad called Ebony Eyes.

In 1987 Robinson went on to become a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The same year he released another album that spawned hit singles. This would lead to his first Grammy win one year later.

The next year Motown Records was sold and Robinson continued to work for the company until 1990. He then signed with SBK Records during 1991. After a failed album release the same year, Robinson laid low until 1999 when he released another Motown album. Robinson’s latest album release was in 2014. The duet album ranked 12 on the Billboard charts.
