Indian industrialist and philanthropist Shiv Nadar has an estimated net worth of $14 billion as of 2015, according to Forbes. As of October 2018, this declined to $13.7 billion. The self-made technology tycoon is the co-founder and chairman of HCL Group.
Shiv was born on 14 July 1945 in Tiruchendur, Tamil Nadu, India. He attended the Town Higher Secondary School and the Town High School in Kumbakonam. He earned his pre-university degree from The American College, Madurai and degree in electrical and electronics engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.
Shiv Nadar started his career at Walchand group’s Cooper Engineering in Pune in 1967. He quit after some time to start his own venture. He founded HCL in 1976 with an investment of around $2,900.
Nadar successfully transformed the IT hardware company into an IT enterprise over the next three decades. Today HCL Group gets most of its wealth from software services outfit HCL Technologies. HCL ventured into the international market in the year 1980 by opening Far East Computers in Singapore.
Nadar is married to Kiran Nadar. They have one daughter Roshni Nadar who is the Executive Director and the CEO of HCL Corporation. Nadar is involved in many philanthropic endeavors. He has been working since mid 1990s to develop the educational system of India through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. He has been honored with many awards and accolades for his contribution to the IT industry.
