Egyptian-Montenegrin businessman Samih Onsi Sawiris ha an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion as of 2015, according to Forbes magazine. He is the executive chairman of the board of directors and CEO of Orascom Development Holding AG.
Samih was born in Sohag, Republic of Egypt. He is the second of the three sons of Egyptian construction tycoon Onsi Sawiris. He earned his engineering diploma in engineering management from the Technical University of Berlin in 1980.
Samih Sawiris founded National Marine Boat Factory. In the year 1996 he founded Orascom Projects for Touristic Development and in 1998 he founded Orascom Hotels and Development. The two companies were merged to form Orascom Development Holding AG. He has been serving as the executive chairman and CEO of the Orascom Development Holding AG since it was formed in 1996.
Currently Orascom Development builds and operates resorts in Egypt, Switzerland and Montenegro. Samih Sawiris owns around 10 percent of OCI N.V, a global producer of natural gas-based fertilizers and industrial chemicals.
Sawiris is married to Goya Gallagher. His father Onsi Sawiris and two brothers, Naguib and Nassef are also billionaires. He has homes in Cairo and Lucerne, Switzerland. He became a citizen of Montenegro in 2011. In the same year, he bought a 12.5 percent stake in FC Luzern, a Lucerne-based Swiss football club.
