British politician Richard Benyon has an estimated net worth of $200 million (£125m) as of 2015, according to the Sunday Times Rich List making him the richest MP in the House of Commons. Benyon was born in Reading on 21 October 1960 and attended Bradfield College and the Royal Agricultural College.
Benyon has been the Conservative MP for Newbury since the 2005 election. He defeated the incumbent Liberal Democrat, David Rendel, with a majority of 12,248. He is the great-great grandson of former Conservative Prime Minister Lord Salisbury.
He serves as a director of the family controlled Englefield Charitable Trust. He oversees the 300-year-old Englefield Estate, which comprises 20,000 acres from Hampshire to Berkshire, and in Scotland. The family’s Benyon Estate has 300 properties in east London. In late 2014 his family firm, Benyon Estate, was involved in controversy at the New Era Estate after trying to raise rent to be in line with the market.
