British media mogul, philanthropist and investor, Mike Danson has an estimated net worth of $655 million (£420m) as of 2015, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. In 1981, Danson founded Datamonitor a London-based market research company, before selling the company to Informa in 2007 for a reported £502m. Danson’s stake and previous share sales came to £193m.
In 2009, Danson acquired London-based TMN Group, a digital media company. And later changed its name to Progressive Digital Media Group Ltd. British political and cultural magazine, New Statesman and Press Gazette are owned by Progressive Media Group. Danson currently serves as Progressive Media Group’s executive chairman as well as its biggest shareholder; with shares valued at £120m. He has recreated same success he had with Datamonitor in this new venture. Danson attended Oxford University , where he received Master’s degree. Danson also gives some of his multi-million pounds fortune to charity through his Danson Foundation.
