Mark Zuckerberg was born on May 14 1984 in White Plains, New York. He was raised Jewish, but became an atheist later. He excelled as a student at Ardsley High School. He was the captain of the fencing team during his student years. Zuckerberg began writing software in middle school. He took a graduate course in the subject at Mercy College while still in high school. While studying at Harvard he had a reputation as a programming prodigy.
Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook in 2004. He launched the site from his Harvard dormitory room. He dropped out of Harvard to move his company to Silicon Valley.
Zuckerberg donated an undisclosed amount to Diaspora, an open-source personal web server that implements a distributed social networking service.
