Magic Johnson is a retired American Basketball player whose passion for basketball started at a young age. He first received the nick name “Magic” when he was 15 years old, from a reporter who had watched him score 36 points, 18 rebounds and 16 assists, in one game.
After winning high school and college championships he was went on to be the first overall draft pick as point guard by the Lakers in 1979. His NBA career included 5 Championships, 3 NBA MVP Awards, 9 NBA Finals appearances, 12 All-Star games, and 10 All-NBA First and Second Team nominations. He led the league in regular-season assists 4 times, and is the NBA’s all-time leader in average assists per game.
Unfortunately Magic Johnson decided to retire after a short career in 1991 after announcing his contradiction of the HIV virus. Though he returned for the All-Star game in 1992 and played 32 games for the Lakers in 1996, he soon retired for a final time.
Since his retirement, Johnson has been an advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and safe sex, as well as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, broadcaster and motivational speaker. Through the buying of sports teams and companies Magic Johnson Enterprise is currently valued at approximately 1 billion dollars.
