The youngest of four children Johnny Depp was always the odd ball as he has admitted in interviews. A tumultuous childhood led to a 12 year old Depp smoking and experimenting with drugs and self-harm. His parents divorced when he was 15 which ultimately led to a rift between Johnny and his father.
When he was 16 Depp dropped out of high school and joined the garage band, The Kids. Though they were mildly successful they still lived pay check to pay check. In 1983 Depp met and married his first wife Lori Allison. Together the couple and the band moved to L.A. to try and strike it big.

Following the film’s success, Depp carved a niche for himself as a serious, somewhat twisted, eccentric performer, consistently selecting roles that surprise critics and audiences.
It was also during this time that Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder’s romance first flourished. Most notable was their engagement and the Winona Forever tattoo that Johnny had done on his right arm. Unfortunately the couple was never able to marry and split 3 years later.
