South African banker and business tycoon Gerrit Thomas Ferreira, best known as GT Ferreira, has an estimated net worth of $510 million as of 2015, according to Forbes. This self-made millionaire is the chairman of RMI Holdings.
Gerrit was born on 6 April 1948. He earned his BA and MBA from the University of Stellenbosch. Along with Lauritz Dippenaar and Paul Harris, he founded Rand Consolidated Investing, the predecessor to FirstRand. This was in the year 1977.
FirstRand was formed in the year 1990 after a series of successful mergers and acquisitions. Today FirstRand is one of the largest financial services groups in Africa. It has operations in South Africa and India.
RMI Holdings for insurance and RMI holdings for banking are the two listed subsidiaries of FirstRand group. Ferreira served as the Managing Director of RMB between 1985 and 1988. Currently he is the non-executive chairman of the company. He is a director at the Glenrand M.I.B Limited and VenFin Limited.
