Dieter Bock Net Worth: The late German businessman, Dieter Bock’s wealth is estimated at £500 million as of May 2014, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
The property developer died in 2010 after choking on a steak at one of his hotels, Atlantic Kempinski in Hamburg at the age of 71. The five star hotel was also used in the famous James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies, staring Pierce Brosnan in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Olga, and four sons.
Dieter Bock came to prominence in the UK in the 1990s when he took control of Lonrho. In 2011, five of his luxury hotels were put on the market. He lived in London, where his family is based.
Dieter Bock was born in Dessau in eastern Germany in 1939, the son of a director of a film materials business. Little was known about his early life other than the facts that his family fled to Munich in 1953, and that after qualifying as a lawyer he established a tax consulting firm in Frankfurt in 1973. Bock ventured into property, and in the late 1970s began to expand his activities to South Africa and the United States through his master company, Advanta, which also owned a controlling interest in the Kempinski hotel chain and a stake in Philipp Holzman, a leading German construction company.
