Yemen is the poorest nation in the Middle East. Its economy is underdeveloped because it had to suffer 11 civil wars. Most Yemenis are engaged in agriculture. The nation has the lowest HDI rank among the Arab nations. Various welfare programs initiated by the government are not adequate to meet the needs of the nation’s impoverished citizens.
The leaders of these nations should learn from their wealthy neighbors and do more to improve the standard of living of their people.
