The classical maestro who is currently living in the United States, is serving in several music groups; he is music director for Life of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, lead Conductor for Valencia’s opera house and the chief conductor of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival.
Mehta started his career taking music classes in Vienna when he was 18 years old. He went on to make his first conducting performance in Vienna in 1958 and won the International Conducting Competition in Liverpool the same year. His entertaining career became even more glittering following his appointment as assistant conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and was named Music Director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. In 1962, Mehta moved on to serve as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and worked there until 1978. He was Music Director and Principal Conductor of the New York Philharmonic. In 1981, he became Music Director for Life of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has many awards and honors including the Kennedy Center Honors .
