Ukrainian-born Russian business magnate Viktor Vekselberg has an estimated net worth of $13 billion as of 2015, according to Forbes. This declines to $12.6 billion as of October 2018. He is the co-founder, owner and president of Renova Group.
Born Viktor Felixovich Vekselberg on 14 April 1957 in Drohobych, Ukrainian SSR, to a Ukrainian Jewish father and a Russian mother. He earned his graduation from the Moscow Transportation Engineering Institute in the year 1979.
This self-made billionaire started his career by working as an engineer and research manager at a state-owned pump manufacturer. In the year 1988, he founded NPO Komvek, which worked for the Irkuksk Aluminum Plant. He founded Renova Group along with his classmate and billionaire Leonard Blavatnik in 1990.
Today Renova Group is a large conglomerate with interests in oil, aluminum, telecommunications, energy and other sectors. It has operations in Russia, the CIS states, South Africa, Switzerland and the US.
Viktor Vekselberg is close to the top people in Kremlin and overseas many projects to modernize the Russian economy. The Government of Russia tapped him to head Skolkovo, Russia’s attempt to create a version of Silicon Valley. Since it started in 2010, three of Vekselberg’s companies won grants from the Skolkovo Fund.
Vekselberg is married and has two children. He resides in Moscow.
