American businessman Steven Anthony “Steve” Ballmer served Microsoft as its CEO from January 2000 to February 2014. He is the owner of Los Angeles Clippers. Forbes estimates this 59-year-old self-made billionaire’s net worth to be around $43.1 billion as of October 2018.
Ballmer was born on March 24 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. His mother Beatrice Dworkin was Jewish and his father Frederic Henry Ballmer was a Swiss immigrant. Steve graduated from Detroit Country Day School with a perfect score of 800 on the mathematical section of the SAT. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with an A.B. in applied mathematics and economics in 1977.
Ballmer dropped out of the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1980 to join Microsoft. He was the first business manager hired by Bill Gates. During the next two decades, he headed various Microsoft divisions. He was officially named CEO of Microsoft in January 2000. He was instrumental in driving the company’s cloud computing strategy. During his tenure as CEO the technology behemoth’s annual revenue surged from $25 billion to $70 billion.
Ballmer married Connie Snyder in 1990. They have three sons. The couple announced a $50 million gift to the University of Oregon and an undisclosed donation to Harvard’s computer science department in November 2014. Currently the family lives in Hunts Point, Washington.
