He was widely recognized for playing Jefferson Davis “Boss” Hogg character in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard. During the Korean War he served as a counterintelligence officer. He attended and received a theater degree from Yale University and spent many years performing on stage in New York. Throughout his career he had registered more than 120 acting credits to his name including his roles in the TV series M*A*S*H, Naked City, Rich Man, Poor Man – Book II, All in the Family, Soap, Dr. Kildare, and the Love Boat. Booke was also featured in the movies Mastermind, Up the Down Staircase, Special Delivery, The Other Side of Midnight, Black Like Me, Bye Bye Braverman, Slaughterhouse-Five, What’s Up, Doc?, The Iceman Cometh, Bank Shot, A Fine Madness, Freaky Friday, and Rock-A-Doodle. In 1964 the actor was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Dr. Kildare. On February 11, 1994 Sorrell Booke deceased from colorectal cancer at the age of 64.
