Born in Marrakech, Morocco in February 1962. American businesswoman and philanthropist Sonia Gardner has an estimated net worth of $380 million as of 2015, according to Forbes. She is the CEO and president of Avenue Capital Group and Avenue Europe Management LLP. Gardner attended and earned her degree in philosophy from the Clark University and a J.D from the Cardozo School of Law. She then started out at Cowen & Co. before leaving for Texas billionaire Robert Bass where she was in charge of handling distressed debt investments. In 1991 she co-founded Amroc Investments and went on to co-establish Avenue Capital in 1995 with $7 million raised from her family and friends; the company is now valued at $13 billion. Besides, Gardner has also served as a board member of nonprofit organization Her Justice, which helps victims of domestic violence.
