She is the founder of Atlanta-based hosiery company Spanx. Blakely attended and earned her degree in communications from the Florida State University and then started out at Walt Disney World for where she worked three months. Later, she landed a job at Danka, selling fax machines door-to-door, before going on to establish her current firm Spanx with $4 million in revenue in its first year of operation and $10 million in sales the following year. In 2013, Blakely became the first female billionaire to join Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and the Giving Pledge’s bid to encourage the world’s richest to donate at least 50% of their wealth to charity cause.
