Salvadoran politician, Salvador Sánchez Cerén, who is the current President of El Salvador, has an estimated net worth of $2 million. Born in June 1944 in Quezaltepeque, La Libertad. In the 2014 presidential election, Cerén, who previously worked as Vice President of El Salvador (2009-14), ran as the candidate of the left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) following his roles as a deputy for the FMLN in the Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2006, as the general coordinator of his party between 2001 and 2004, and as head of the legislative portion of the FMLN in 2006. In April 2007 he was chosen as the running mate of Mauricio Funes in the 2009 presidential election. Funes and Sánchez Cerén beat out the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA). His political ideology is deeply based on various democratic and revolutionary organizations to which he holds membership. Cerén was also a member of the PRAM (Partido Revolicionario Abril y Mayo), a political party that was against the dictatorship and advocated anti-imperialism, and later of (UDN) Union Democratica Nacionalista and PAR (Partido Accion Renovadora). He also participated in the (UNO) Union Nacional Oppositora as member of the UDN and an active member of the ANDES 21 de Junio. In the ’70s he joined the Fuerzas Populares de Liberación “Farabundo Martí” (FPL). Cerén is married to Margarita Villalta.
