Northern Irish professional golfer, Rory McIlroy has an estimated net worth of $58 million (£38m) as of 201,5 according to Sunday Times Rich List. Born in Holywood, County Down in Northern Ireland, at the age of 19 he won his first professional tournament, the Dubai Desert Classic. In 2011, he won the US Open and US PGA championship the following in 2012. He was the leading money winner in Europe and America in 2012, only the second person after England’s Luke Donald to achieve the feat. He signed a sponsorship deal with Nike worth more than $250 million for a 10 years period and has a lucrative contract with Santander. It has not all been plain sailing for the young golfer though. McIlroy struggled with his game in 2013 and is involved in a legal battle with his former management company – one that will be resolved in court later this year. McIlroy’s on-course earnings alone exceeded £12 million in 2012 and 2013. At the age of 26 he has already earned over £40-million in prize money and that will only continue to increase. He made £1.7 million in 2013 from an investment in Sunseeker yachts, which was sold to a Chinese group. In 2013 he sold his Belfast home for £2 million and now lives in a $10 million house in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In May 2014, he called off his engagement to Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
