Moroccan businessman Othman Benjelloun has an estimated net worth of $2.2 billion as of 2015, according to Forbes. He is the richest man in Morocco. This billionaire has interests in insurance, banking and telecom through his holding company FinanceCom.
Othman was born in the year 1931 in Fes, Morocco. He studied engineering at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. His father was a large shareholder in an insurance company. Othman took over the company from his father and turned it into RMA Watanya.
Over the years, Othman has expanded his business into the banking industry. He is the CEO of BMCE Bank, a large commercial bank which operates more than 500 branches in Morocco alone. It has offices in Spain, France, China, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Belgium. The bank’s non-Moroccan operations contribute more than 40 percent of its net income. Its stock is listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange.
Benjelloun is the also chairman of Meditelecom and a member of the World Union of Arab Bankers. FinanceCom runs Paris-based money management firm FinanceCom Asset Management, which invests in companies in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco and Ghana.
Othman Benjelloun is married to Leila Mezian. They have two children. Othman resides in Casablanca, Morocco.
