He started off his career with Schalke’s youth team in 1991 and broke into the senior team in 2006, making 156 appearances before signing for Bayern. Neuer also made his Germany Under-21 debut in 2006 and went on to win the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. He was then included in Germany’s first-team set-up in the same year and was selected as country’s number one goalkeeper for the World Cup in 2010.
