Liliane Bettencourt is a French heiress, businesswoman, socialite and philanthropist. She is one of the principal shareholders of French cosmetics and beauty company L’Oréal. Forbes estimates her net worth to be around $39.4 billion as of 2017.
Liliane Bettencourt was born in Paris, France, on 21 October 1922. She is the only daughter of Eugene Schueller, the founder of L’Oréal. She joined her father’s company as an apprentice when she was 15, and inherited the L’Oréal fortune when her father passed away in the year 1957.
Bettencourt married André Bettencourt in 1950. They have one daughter Françoise. Currently Françoise and her husband are members of the L’Oréal board. André died on 19 November 2007.
Liliane Bettencourt, together with her husband André Bettencourt and daughter Françoise Bettencourt Meyers founded the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation in the year 1987. Based in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, the Foundation supports and develops cultural, medical and humanitarian projects.
