British race car driver, Lewis Hamilton has an estimated net worth of $140 million (£88m) as of May 2015, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. Hamilton was born on 7 January 1985 in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. He started karting in 1993 at the age of eight and he progressed to Cadet ranks through to Junior Yamaha in 1997. When he was 13, McLaren signed him to their Young Driver Support Programme and he duly won the British Formula Renault, Formula Three Euroseries and GP2 championships before joining F1 in 2007. Ron Dennis helped Hamilton to move on to Formula One; he was the youngest driver ever to secure a F1 contract. He set numerous records in his first season in F1, finishing second. He went on to win the 2008 Formula One World Champion. Hamilton left McLaren and signed for Mercedes, and secured his second world title last year. He currently earns £15 million a year driving for Mercedes.
In 2012 he left Switzerland and is now living in Monaco. He owns a £20 million private jet and was in a relationship with singer Nicole Scherzinger. His younger brother, Nicolas, is to compete in this season’s British Touring Car Championship. And he is there on merit. Nicolas, who has cerebral palsy, will make his debut in June and becomes the first disabled driver to compete in the series.
