Portuguese football manager and former footballer Jose Mourinho, who is currently manager of English club Chelsea, has an estimated net worth of $60 million (£40m) as of 2015, according to the Sunday Times rich list. He is the world’s highest-paid football manager based on France Football’s annual survey of managerial wealth in 2015; put his 2014 earnings at £13.2m. Mourinho is two years into a four-year contract with Chelsea, he has earned over of £80m since 2004.
Born on 26 January 1963 in Setúbal, Lisbon, Portugal. Mourinho’s playing career began when he joined the Belenenses youth team before making a breakthrough into the senior team and then signing with Rio Ave back in 1980. After staying there for two years, he moved on to re-join Belenenses and later signed for Sesimbra. In 1985 Mourinho moved to Comércio e Indústria where he hung up his boots in 1987. Following his retirement from as a player, he gained his experience in management as a school coach and youth team coach prior to his role as a manager of Benfica in 2000. He has been successful wherever he has worked, first gaining global attention when he led unfancied F.C. Porto to win the UEFA Champions League in 2004. Soon after that, he was appointed as Chelsea manager and led the team to win many titles including the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup. He still proved he was a very capable manager when he took over Inter Milan, leading the team to win scores of trophies including the Serie A, UEFA Champions League, and more. In 2010 Mourinho signed with Real Madrid and led the club to enjoy glory again before returning to Chelsea three years later. He has been married to his Angola-born wife Matilde “Tami” Faria since 1989. The couple have two children, Matilde Mourinho and Jose Mario Mourinho Jr.
