Nigerian businessman Jim Ovia has an estimated net worth of $850 million. This self-made millionaire is the founder of Zenith Bank.
Jim was born on November 4 1951 in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria. He earned degrees from Southern University and University of Louisiana at Monroe. He also attended Harvard Business School.
Ovia founded the Zenith Bank in 1990. In 2005, under his able leadership, the bank was awarded the “Most Respected Bank in Nigeria” by PricewaterhouseCoopers and “Bank of the Year” by The Banker Magazine. It was named the most security friendly and conscious bank in Nigeria in 2005.
Jim Ovia served as the CEO of Zenith Bank till 2010. Currently he is the chairman of the bank. With 9.3 percent stake, he is the bank’s largest individual shareholder. Today Zenith Bank is a twenty-first century bank. It is the biggest tier-1 bank in Nigeria. It has shareholder base of more than one million. Ovia’s other assets include real estate across Nigeria and Visafone, a mobile telecom outfit.
The Government of Nigeria honored Ovia with one of the Nigerian national honors. He is married and has two children. Currently he resides in Lagos, Nigeria.
