Jennifer Hudson Net Worth
With a net worth of $20 million, Jennifer Hudson first came into viewers homes during American Idol’s third season in 2004. Two years later she starred in her first box office film Dreamgirls. As a result she won Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Academy awards. Her first self titled album was released in 2008. Hudson would go on to win her first Grammy for the album. Her second album was 2011’s I Remember Me; the album went gold, with more than one million worldwide sales.
Hudson’s on air performances have included American Idol, Oprah Winfrey’s Show and the Grammy Awards. She even performed one of her songs at the White House. The performance was part of an event for the Civil Rights Moment. President Obama personally invited her to a Beverly Hills fundraising event he attended.
Dreamgirls wet Hudson’s feet for acting and she went on to star in the Sex and the City movie, as well as the Secret Life of Bees. She also went on to star in Fragments and a biopic called Winnie Mandela. Legal issues with the movie delayed its opening from 2011 to 2013.
Hudson’s career briefly came to a screeching halt in 2008 when her brother, nephew and mother were shot and killed. After staying out of the spotlight for three months following, she resurfaced in time to perform at the 2009 Superbowl. Since then she and her family have started The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims in memory of their lost loved ones.
2015 kept Hudson busy as she began starring in The Color Purple, on Broadway. She also gave a performance at the 87th Academy Awards. In addition, Hudson appeared on the TV show Empire, where she was a guest star but also performed a song. She is set to star in the live NBC production of Hairspray as well.
