Born in 1960, multi-talented American hip hop artist, visual artist, and filmmaker Fab Five Freddy, whose real name is Fred Brathwaite, earns an estimated net worth of $2 million. Freddy started off his career as a camera operator in New York’s downtown underground scene in the late 1970s and was regularly featured on the public access television show TV Party. He then became a member of the Brooklyn, NY based graffiti group “The Fabulous 5” and was instrumental in helping the group transition from street graffiti to art. In 1979, together with other Fabulous 5 member Lee Quiñones, exhibited in a prestigious gallery in Rome Italy, Galleria LaMedusa. In 1981 he was mentioned in the Blondie song “Rapture” with the lyrics “Fab 5 Freddy told me everybody’s fly”. He later went on to become the first host of the groundbreaking and first internationally telcast hip-hop television series Yo! MTV Raps in the late 1980s. He is considered an architect of the street art movement thanks to what he did in the early 1980s. He is widely recognized for being the first hip hop VJ. Freddy directed the music video “One Love” by Nas and worked on and starred in the movie American Gangster.
