American businessman and property developer Donald Bren has an estimated net worth of $15.2 billion as of 2015, according to Forbes. He is the chairman of the Irvine Company, a real estate development company.
Donald was born on May 11 1932 in Los Angeles, California. His mother Marion was of partial Irish descent and his father Milton was of Jewish descent. Milton was a real estate investor and Hollywood movie producer. Donald earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from the University of Washington.
After college Bren served as an officer in the US Marine Corps. He started his business career in 1958 by finding the Bren Company, which built homes in Orange County, California.
Bren joined the group of investors to buy the 146-year-old Irvine Company in 1977. He was the largest shareholder of the resulting consortium owning 34.3 percent of the company. Today he wholly owns the US-based real estate investment company, Irvine Company. It owns 500 office properties, 50,000 apartments, around 40 shopping centers, three hotels, and many golf clubs and marinas.
Donald Bren has been married three times. He has seven children. Currently he lives with his wife Brigitte Muller in Newport Beach, California. He prefers to keep a low public profile.
