Dave Mirra had a net worth of $15 million until his untimely death in 2016 at the age of 41. He joined a bike team for the first time at the age of 13. A year later he appeared in Plywoods Hoods videos.

At the age of 15, Dave was sponsored by Vision Street Wear. At the same time, GT Bicycles also sponsored him before Hoffman Bikes, which he joined in 1992. That same year he began his career as a professional dirt bike rider. Three years into his career began a winning streak. From 1994 to 2005 and 2007 to 2009 he won an X Games Metal. In total he won 24 of them. This was a world record from 2005 to 2013. Starting in 2008 and ending in 2013 he was a member of the USA Subaru Rally Team. He finished in fourth place at the Global Rally Cross Championship in 2013. The same year he competed in an Ironman Triathalon. Throughout his career he was sponsored by Puma, Monster Energy, Nike and Snafu.
His success as a dirt bike racer led to a hosting gig for The Real World/Road Rules Challenge. He hosted the MTV reality show for two seasons. He also appeared in a dirt bike video game called the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. In addition he appeared in Colin McRae: Dirt 2. In 2007 he became a business owner when he launched MirraCo, his own dirt bike company. His other credits include a DC Shoes endorsement and a photo-biography on his career.
After beating bacterial meningitis, Dave resumed his career in 2010. Six years later his body was found in a truck he had rented in order to visit friends in Greenville.
